What is Pilates?

The Pilates Method

Joseph Pilates developed a method of exercise and movement designed to improve strength, flexibility, posture, and mental awareness. Originally called Contrology, his work focused on teaching the body to move with strength, efficiency, and control.

Through consistent practice, repetition, and focused breathing, the exercises promote uniform muscular development, increased lung capacity, and greater ease of movement in everyday life. While gentle on the joints, Pilates effectively conditions the entire body, fostering both strength and control.

“Pilates is complete coordination of body, mind, and spirit.”
– Joseph Pilates

My Education & Approach

My education brings together contemporary comprehensive certification, ongoing classical teacher training, and long‑term mentorship with classically trained teachers. This mix lets me honour the original Pilates method while drawing on a broad, well‑rounded understanding of the body and movement, including several years of study and mentorship through The Pilates Center in Boulder.

Over time, I’ve chosen to keep learning from different mentors rather than following a single path, because I believe that working with various teachers creates deeper perspective, better questions, and more thoughtful teaching.
